So finally H&D get to go out - at least into a pub garden.
So where better than the Miller of Mansfield in Goring and its beautiful courtyard on a sunny Sunday?
Serving their compact courtyard menu, we ordered nearly everything on it along with a nice cold bottle of white wine.
We had the delicate baby vegetables and summery mint aubergine dip, the very crispy cauliflower bites with Old Winchester cheese sauce (our 'dish of the day', a hunk of their famous sourdough, a small quail Scotch egg with tartare sauce, a dish of whitebait with marie rose sauce and truffle fries.
After we virtually inhaled all those dishes greedily we had a lovely vanilla ice cream with flake and a passionfruit sorbet in a cone.
It was perfect. With a lovely cool bottle of Viognier and some bottled water, it came to around £30 each - but boy it was just fantastic.
And as we begin to venture out more we have made a pledge - eat more slowly!
I honestly don't know if we will manage it...
